Five Free Casual iPad Games for Your Coffee Break 1
I’m not a big gamer, but you just can’t say no to a couple of coffee break games. Especially if they are fun, good looking, and don’t make you learn a ton of rules. So here are five free and great casual games for the iPad – just try to not let that five-minute coffee break become a wasted afternoon.
Touch Hockey Extreme: FS5

I knew this one already from the iPhone, but the iPad version is much nicer looking. It even adds perspective when you tilt he iPad. This is a fun app to play for a couple of minutes. Playing against a colleague is even better. The ads suck though, as the app forces you to watch them for five seconds. Tip: start playing with the medium difficulty level, the easy is, well, too easy. [iTunes]
Nick’s Ultimate Word Search
Relax your brain with a word game. It can’t get much more easy than with Word Search. Find the words, mark with your finger. Not much more to it (okay, the app can also get word definitions from Merriam Webster’s), but Nick’s Ultimate Word Search is a nice way to get your thoughts off work for a little. [iTunes]
NYTimes Crosswords
Another word game, although it starts to feel I’m writing this post for the iPadManiac mother. But hey, doing a crossword from time to time is good for your brain. You can’t go wrong with the official New York Times crosswords. Careful though: this app is a free trial giving you time limited access to daily crosswords; to get more crosswords after the trial period you need to get a subscription ($16.99 per year). [iTunes]
Tic Tac Toe Free

Our all time favorite class room game is a great 30 second distraction during your lunch break. Bet the lunch money with your work colleagues! This app has a beautiful design, but unfortunately also ads. Shell out $0.99 for the premium upgrade to get rid of them. [iTunes]
Brick Breaker

Currently the number one selling app in the Games category, this Breakout clone could you make you extend your lunch break to the evening. You can control the pad with your finger or by tilting the iPad. I have found that the latter provides more office entertainment but is way less effective. All in all, this app has great levels, great game play – highly addictive! [iTunes]

I like the Tic Tac Toe. I also like Air Hockey TS better than the one above for my kids. Easier to use for younger kids. I love apps that don’t take my intervention all of the time.
