Quick Tip: iPad Compass 2
Did you know that your iPad has a digital compass built in? I completely missed this feature until I saw a Compass app on the app store [Tunes]. The digital compass is available both in the wifi and in the 3G versions.
There is no need for a separate app to test the compass. Simply tap the Locate icon in the map app twice and the map view will turn to show a compass in the upper right corner. If you are using it for the first time or are near magnetic interference (such as your desktop or notebook), the app will ask you to calibrate the compass by drawing an eight in the air.

I would suggest to try the compass when walking a crowded street as doing the figure-8 shake in public will get you extra maniac points.

Ok, it’s a cool feature to have but is it really that useful? If you’re walking around London with your iPad out following a compass you’re going to have it knocked out of your hand pretty quickly in the hustle and bustle. I can see how this is a cool feature for iPhones but not the iPad.
Well I wouldn’t know, I have never had the use for a compass in my life. I guess that’s why I was surprised it’s on the iPad
